I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information relating to highway drainage maintenance.
1. Please can you provide the number of highway drainage assets under your responsibility? If available, can you split the information by type (e.g. gullies, chambers, ditches etc.)?
• Gullies – about 30,000
• Manholes – about 5,000
a) Could you also provide information about the number of gullies cleaned per year for the last 3 available years?
All gullies are cleaned at least once every year and about 10,000 are cleaned twice a year. There is also ad-hoc cleaning as reported by members of the public.
b) If available, please could you provide the number of blocked drainage assets for the last 3 years?

2. Please can you provide your highway drainage budget for the last 3 years
Revenue budget (direct maintenance costs):
FY2019/2020: 514,000
FY2020/2021: 544,000
FY2021/2022: 766,000
Capital Budget
FY2019/2020: £200,000
FY2020/2021: £200,000 Plus £115,000 (FDGiA added at October Executive)
FY2021/2022: £200,000
a) Does this budget only cover gully cleaning, or does it also include other services such as relining, emergency jetting, CCTV surveys?
The revenue budget covers gulley/manhole cleaning as well as any ad-hoc drainage maintenance works
The capital budget covers major drainage projects and CCTV works.
b) If not, please include budgets and actual expenditure for these additional services over the last 3 years
As explained in 2a above.
3. Can you please provide your actual expenditure on drainage over the last 3 years, if available

Managed as part of a highway maintenance contract with Volker Highways.

Between April 2021 and October 2022, 178 (51 high risk and 127 medium risk).
