I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information relating to electric on-street charging. In particular, are you able to provide me with:
1. Did your council apply for the OZEV cross pavement charging grant?
No due to the challenges of gullies around electrical safety, grey area around liability and the high upfront costs to the residents including requirements for planning applications.
2. With regards to offering cross pavement charging to your residents (for electric vehicles), are you in the planning stage, trial stage, live stage or do you not currently plan to trial cross-pavement charging?
We are planning on doing a trial with Trojan Energy that seems to overcome the above concerns whilst providing access to reduced home energy tariffs.
3. If cross pavement charging is not yet available through a trial or live scheme in your area, when are you planning tostart trials for cross pavement charging?
As per above. We are in the discussions of doing a trojan home trial.
4. If it is already available, how many streets is it available in?
The scheme is not available yet. Streets will be defined upon review of the residents’ requests.
5. If it is already available, how many applications have been received?
Not available yet.
6. If it is already available, how many applications have been approved?
Not available yet.
7. What is the total cost to residents to install cross pavement charging and how will this change if you are awarded the OZEV cross-pavement grant?
Zero upfront cost. Host customers are to pay a subscription fee to Trojan Energy of £50 per month, in addition to paying the cost to them of using their home electricity (under their domestic electricity tariff). The price will remain at £50 per month for 36 months, after which time the Host can switch to a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) tariff if preferred. The PAYG Tariff is set at 10% below the national average tariff for 7kW public charging.
8. How many on-street chargers are currently available in your local authority?
According to the latest reporting (March 2025) from zap map, there are 346 public chargepoints in our borough. All public chargepoints, including the on-street ones can be viewed on zap map (https://www.zap-map.com/live/).
