Unpaid Council Tax - Reminder and Final Notice

Reminder

We will initially send you a text message to remind you that your Council Tax payment is due.

If you miss a Council Tax payment, you’ll receive a reminder notice outlining the amount due and the payment deadline.

Paying in full within 7 days allows you to continue paying in instalments. If not, you’ll lose this option and must pay the full annual amount in one lump sum. Failure to pay within 14 days may result in a court summons and a liability order.

If you're struggling to pay, contact the council as soon as possible to discuss payment options or apply for a reduction or exemption.

Final notices

Final notices are issued when at least two Council Tax instalments are missed, and no payment plan has been arranged. Once issued, the full remaining balance for the year must be paid within 7 days.

If unpaid, the council may take further action, including applying for a liability order, which can lead to enforcement agents, wage or benefit deductions, and court costs.

To avoid a final notice, pay on time and contact the council promptly if you're struggling. You may be eligible for a reduction or exemption based on your circumstances.
