Discounts for people with disabilities
Council tax discounts for disabled residents
About the discount for people with disabilities
If you, or someone you live with, has a disability, you may be entitled to a reduction in the amount of Council Tax you pay. Your Council Tax bill may be reduced so that you pay a band lower than your property is in. For example, if your property is in band E you will pay the charge for a property in band D.
If your property is already in band A, the lowest band, your bill is reduced by one ninth of the band D charge for your area.
Discount eligibility
To qualify, there must be at least one permanently resident disabled person in the property, and at least one of the following:
- A room specifically adapted for the disabled person’s needs
- A second bathroom or kitchen for the disabled person’s use
- Sufficient space for daily wheelchair use within the home
Please note: The following do not qualify on their own - stair lifts, additional rails, use of a zimmer frame indoors, or possession of a disabled parking permit.
