Discounts for carers
Discount eligibility
- You must live with the person you care for.
- The person cared for cannot be your spouse, partner, or a child under 18.
- You provide at least 35 hours of care per week.
- The person you care for receives one of the following:
- Any rate of Attendance Allowance
- Middle or highest rate of Disability Living Allowance (care component)
- Any rate of Personal Independence Payment (daily living component)
- An increased Disablement Pension
- An increased Constant Attendance Allowance
You do not need to receive Carer’s Allowance to claim this discount.
Discount availability
If you meet the carer criteria above, you are ‘disregarded’ for Council Tax purposes and may not have to pay.
- 25% discount: If two adults are resident and one is a carer (as if only one adult lives there).
- No discount: If more than one resident is not disregarded.
Apply for the discount for carers
To apply complete the application form for Carers Discount (PDF document) and send to ctax@wokingham.gov.uk.
To qualify for the discount where the care is provided on behalf of an organisation, the below needs to apply to you:
- Provide care on behalf of a Local Authority or charity, work at least 24 hours per week and get paid no more than £44 per week
If you were living alone and a carer has since moved in, please let us know and complete the above form.
If you left your home to provide care for someone and the property is left empty you may qualify for an exemption.
