Council tax charges and increases

Your Council Tax helps to pay for services provided by us, Thames Valley Police and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Changes to your Council Tax amount

Did you know most of our money is spent on statutory services? We have growing costs year-on-year because of more residents and increased demand on services.

Visit the Council Tax bands page to find out the charge for your property.

How we work the amount out

Increases for Wokingham Borough and Adult Social Care are worked out based on the standard charge (sum of both of those elements) for the previous year, which is multiplied by the percentage shown on the bill.

The sum of Wokingham Borough charge for 2023 to 2024 and Adult Social Care charge for 2023 to 2024 is multiplied by 2.99 percent to calculate the Wokingham Borough element increase for 2024 to 2025.

The same calculation is done for the Adult Social Care increase, using the relevant percentage and then add on the amount from 2023 to 2024. The other charges are then added (parish, fire and police) to make up the total Council Tax charge.

Council Tax is calculated based on a band D charge. To calculate charges for other bands the following ratios are applied:

  • Band A – 6:9
  • Band B – 7:9
  • Band C – 8:9
  • Band D – 9:9
  • Band E – 11:9
  • Band F – 13:9
  • Band G – 15:9
  • Band H – 18:9
