Section 13A tax discount for financial hardship
Section 13A allows us to reduce the Council Tax amount if you have financial hardship due to unforeseen or exceptional circumstances.
Are you already receiving a Council Tax Reduction?
If you are not already in receipt of Council Tax Reduction (support), please apply for the Council Tax reductions scheme, before making an application for Section 13A.
Section 13A discount eligibility
There are no pre-set criteria for this discount, each application will be looked at on a case by case basis.
We’ll consider:
- The level of discount being requested - is this for the full year’s Council Tax or part of it
- The reason for the request - why is the reduction wanted
- Period of time the discount is wanted for
- Steps that have been taken to meet or mitigate the Council Tax liability
Apply for the discount
You can apply for a Council Tax Discount under Section 13A of the Local Government Finance Act 1992.
