Following a request for speed data in relation to vehicles using the Silverdale Road/Betchworth Avenue area of Earley, the advice received from the Borough Council was that the figures did not indicate a speeding issue along that section of the road. This was the conclusion reached on the basis that the criteria you have used was based on average speeds.
However, most of the vehicular traffic movements in this area occurred during the day, when the road is quite congested on occasions, particularly at school opening and closing times. Consequently, traffic speeds are relatively low during daytime hours.
We have noted that most of the speeding that occurs is in the evening, when traffic is light, and therefore this would not show up if you are taking average speeds.

1. Accordingly, we wish to request that the council provide the raw data used to compile the average figures that have been compiled, in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.
