Homelessness following relationship
See notes
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please provide the following for each of the last 5 years (2020 - 2025).
1. The number of homelessness applications where ‘relationship breakdown’ was recorded as a primary cause.
This information is available via https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/homelessness-statistics for each of the last financial years.
2. Of these, how many applicants were recorded as previously cohabiting (i.e. not married or in a civil partnership).
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this information as this would exceed 18 hours (Section 12) as the above information is published anonymously, so we are unable to match it up to database, so to confirm applicants who were cohabiting and relationship breakdown was the primary reasons for homelessness, each application made over the time period would need to be manually checked. Below is the number of cases which would need to be checked for each year, would take approximately 10 mins to check each case so even just checking the last two years would exceed 18 hours.
21/22 = 313
22/23 = 391
23/24 = 576
24/25 = 531
25/26 = 552 (to date)
