1. Do you currently operate a segregated or commingled kerbside collection service for dry recyclable materials?
Commingled

2. Do you have a policy or directive that specifies that all your kerbside-collected dry recycling materials should be recycled in the UK?
a) Please specify if there are different policies for different materials.
N/A

3. For aluminium specifically,
a) Who sorts and recycles your aluminium for you: Aluminium is sorted from other kerbside recyclates by our PFI contractor, FCC Environment. FCC Environment currently send our Aluminium cans to Promet.
b) If outsourced, please specify the company or organisation:As above.
c) Is your aluminium recycled in the UK: Promet send aluminium cans both to UK aluminium rolling mills and international aluminium smelters.
d) How much annual income do you derive from the sale of recycled aluminium? Over the last three years the income from the sale of aluminium collected in the re3 area has averaged ~£600k per year. This figure represents the number of tonnes sold and the price received per tonne. The re3 Councils receive a proportion of this income after costs have been covered.
e) Does this income subsidise, or make a substantial contribution to, the cost of your whole recycling programme: Income from aluminium recycling does subsidise the costs, however it is not a substantial contribution (2%).
f) What would be the impact to your overall recycling programme if you lost your entire aluminium recycling income: The loss of income would mean that the overall costs of collecting and processing the kerbside recyclate would increase and the councils would probably need to provide compensation to the PFI Contractor for lack of income.
g) Would you have to increase your Council Tax to compensate for such a loss: Unknown. Council tax funds many different Council services.

4. Are you a member of any local authority waste management partnership: Yes. The information provided in this response covers the Partnership as a whole.
a) If so, which one: re3 (Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham)
b) Does it operate its own Materials Recovery Facility: Yes
c) Does it have a policy or directive to ensure that aluminium is recycled in the UK: No
