I am writing to request information from your organisation about any plastic waste that has been shipped to Asia. Specifically, I am requesting the following information:

1. The total amount of plastic waste shipped to Asia from your organisation over the past five years, organised by year (e.g. 10 tonnes in 2019, 20 tonnes in 2020).
2. The countries that the plastic waste was shipped to.

We have reviewed your request and believe much of it to be covered under Exemption 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. This states that there is no right of access to information via a Freedom of Information request if it is available to the applicant by another route.

WasteDataFlow is the system used by UK local authorities for municipal waste data reporting. The data entered on this system can be accessed by members of the public via a simple registration process. Registered users can go to the reports section of the WasteDataFlow website and select the Councils and reporting periods that they are interested in. A range of reports are available but the raw data report for question 100 shows the waste type, quantity and destination of waste sent for treatment and disposal.
Data is publicly available up until the end of the 2020/21 Financial year.

For 2021/22 and 2022/23 (to date);
1. No plastic waste has been shipped to Asia.
2. We do not ship plastic waste outside the UK. (One of our UK reprocessors notes that if it has surplus material, it may ship this to northern European countries).
