I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following Information. I would be keen to get answers and information for the following questions.
1. Could you please provide me with the total number of claims made by drivers regarding pothole damage across the following years 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25. Could you please break these down by year.
2. Could you provide me with the total number of these claims that resulted in a payout by the council to a driver across those years? Could you please break these down
3. Could you provide me with the total sum the council has paid out in pothole damage claims to drivers across the following years 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25. Could you please break these down by year.
4. Could you provide me with the highest pothole damage claim payout you have paid in each of the last four years?
Please note that the council records claims data by calendar year and not by financial year; we have therefore provided our answers by calendar year.
In the calendar year 2021, 18 claims were notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers from drivers alleging ‘pothole damage’ to their vehicles. 6 of these claims have been paid at a total of £2,445.57. The highest single claim payment was £899.17.
In the calendar year 2022, 31 claims were notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers from drivers alleging ‘pothole damage’ to their vehicles. 13 of these claims have been paid at a total of £4,572.12. The highest single claim payment was £1,246.86.
In the calendar year 2023, 139 claims were notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers from drivers alleging ‘pothole damage’ to their vehicles. 52 of these claims have been paid at a total of £14,194.54. The highest single claim payment was £1,475.83.
In the calendar year 2024, 81 claims were notified to the council’s insurance team and/or insurers from drivers alleging ‘pothole damage’ to their vehicles. 23 of these claims have been paid at a total of £9,112.84. The highest single claim payment was £2,370.12.
