Grant fraud with false info, hidden assets, fund misuse, and exaggerated needs
Councils award several different types of grants to help local businesses and residents such as to assist vulnerable households in need, or to improve facilities for disabilities.
Examples of Grant fraud:
- Not declaring full income/information on capital and assets when required to
- Dishonestly dissipating funds be under a threshold in order to be eligible for a grant, for example transferring funds in a bank account to family members so it cannot be identified
- Lying on a grant application form, or providing misleading information
- Being dishonest about a need or greatly exaggerating the need
