Learn to travel to school or college
If you have an education, health and care plan (EHCP), you might be able to get help from our SEND Transport Team to learn how to travel to school or college by public transport, like buses and trains.
This is called independent travel training and it is free.
It’s designed to help you feel confident and safe when travelling.
Who can get independent travel training
You can get travel training if you:
- are of statutory school age
- have an EHCP
- get, or are eligible for travel assistance to school or college
How to apply
Your parents, carers or school can refer you or you can refer yourself.
- Fill in the referral form (PDF)
- Email it to: SENDTransport@wokingham.gov.uk
What happens next
If travel training is right for you, a travel trainer will get to know you and work with you to plan your training sessions.
Find out more about how the training works on independent travel training.
Other ways to do travel training
Optalis run a travel training programme called Ability Travel.
It can help you learn how to travel by bus or train to places like school, work, or activities you enjoy.
Anyone aged 13 and over can apply and there is no maximum age.
The cost depends on what support you need.
Find out more about Ability Travel on the Optalis website.
Bus passes and railcards
If you have a disability, you can:
- travel on buses in Wokingham Borough for free with a disabled person’s bus pass
