Children and young people's continuing care

What continuing care is

Children and young people's continuing care is an NHS-funded care package.

It is for children and young people:

  • under 18
  • with complex health needs
  • who need more support than a GP, hospital, community or specialist service can usually provide

It is different from NHS continuing healthcare for adults.

The care package can support complex needs related to:

  • breathing
  • eating and drinking
  • mobility
  • continence and elimination
  • skin and tissue health
  • communication
  • drug therapies and medicines
  • psychological and emotional needs
  • seizures
  • challenging behaviour
