Children and young people's continuing care
What continuing care is
Children and young people's continuing care is an NHS-funded care package.
It is for children and young people:
- under 18
- with complex health needs
- who need more support than a GP, hospital, community or specialist service can usually provide
It is different from NHS continuing healthcare for adults.
The care package can support complex needs related to:
- breathing
- eating and drinking
- mobility
- continence and elimination
- skin and tissue health
- communication
- drug therapies and medicines
- psychological and emotional needs
- seizures
- challenging behaviour
