Education help for care leavers
Get the support you need with Wokingham Virtual School’s learning and career support
Wokingham Virtual School (WVS)
Wokingham Virtual School (WVS) supports children and young people who are in care, or who have been in care in the past. If you’re in care or have ever been in care, think of WVS as a team that's got your back, making sure you get the support you need to feel confident and do well at school. They work with a range of professionals to help clear away anything that might get in the way of your learning.
Here’s what they can help you with:
- A laptop to help you study or look for jobs, and you can swap it for a new one every three years, so you’re not stuck with something slow or glitchy.
- Extra tutoring if you’re giving your English or maths GCSE another shot and want a bit more support to feel ready.
- English lessons for unaccompanied asylum‑seeking young people who want help settling in and getting more comfortable with the language.
- Careers advice from the Post‑16 Officer, who’s there to chat things through and help you figure out what might be a good next step for you.
- Personal Education Plans (PEPs) plus termly check‑ins to see how things are going and make sure you feel listened to.
- Access to extra courses, depending on what you need and what you’re aiming for.
