Improving the Kinship Care Local Offer

Kinship Local Offer update

We’re making great progress on the Wokingham Kinship Local Offer. Now that our local survey has closed, we’re busy going through all the feedback, talking with key partners, and putting together the first draft of the Offer. Before anything is final, we’ll be checking back in with kinship families to make sure what we publish genuinely reflects local needs and real lived experiences.

We want to say a huge thank‑you to Wokingham’s Kinship Community. Your support, filling in the survey, welcoming our staff at support groups, and openly sharing your experiences, has made a real difference and is helping shape what the Local Offer will look like.

A big thank‑you also goes to the children and young people who joined our recent activities. Many of them took on some brilliant challenges, including rock climbing, and shared their thoughts with us. Their feedback shows that children and young people in kinship care are happy, thriving, and well supported within their families and wider networks.

We’re also excited to share that Wokingham has launched its first Kinship Families Partnership Group. We hope this becomes a lively, collaborative space where kinship families can directly influence local developments.

Our local voluntary and community sector group continues to play a key role too. Their commitment and determination to support kinship families has a real impact, and we’re grateful to have them as partners as we develop our Local Offer.

We’re still on track to launch the completed Local Offer by June 2026.

Finally, we’ve launched our first Kinship Newsletter. If you’re interested in kinship care, we’d love for you to sign up and stay connected.

Kinship Community Survey

While we continue to build our Local Offer, we are staying closely connected to regional and national developments. We encourage all kinship carers to take part in the Kinship‑led South East Kinship Community Survey, which will help shape improvements across the wider sector.

National Kinship Care Ambassador Report

On 27 February 2026, we welcomed the publication of a new insight report by the National Kinship Care Ambassador, Jahnine Davis.

The report provides a timely and thoughtful exploration of the complexities within the kinship care system. It highlights the challenges that arise when kinship care is viewed through traditional fostering or adoption frameworks, and it offers guidance on strengthening support for families.

We remain committed to working alongside our kinship families, the VSAG community, partner organisations, and local groups to build a strong, joined‑up and supportive approach to kinship care across Wokingham.
