Adaptations grant
If you are eligible, you can get a Disabled Facilities Grant for home adaptations that cost over £1,000, up to a maximum of £30,000. If the amount you need is more than this, your application will need to be reviewed.
Freestanding specialist equipment
An occupational therapist may decide you need free-standing specialist equipment such as:
- medical bed
- commode
- toilet frame
- seating chair
- moving and handling equipment i.e. hoist and sling
- bath seat
Freestanding equipment is available to loan. You do not need a Disabled Facilities Grant for this.
We will arrange the loan of the equipment to meet your needs and explain to you how:
- this will be funded
- the equipment will be reviewed, to ensure it is still safe to use
Adults aged 18 and over with a disability
The Disabled Facilities Grant is means-tested. Adults aged 18 and over may need to pay towards the cost of the work.
The grant amount depends on:
- your household income
- your household savings if over £6,000
Children and young people under 18 with disabilities
Parent’s income will not be taken into account for major adaptations for children and young people with disabilities, aged under 18.
