How to use our car park payment machines

Using the payment machines

If the screen is blank, wake the machine by: 

  • Pressing the green button just below the display to activate the screen or
  • Tapping the screen

Checking in and checking out

Check in and check out authorises the full charge as a default pending payment. Choose this option if you don't know how long you'll be. Once you check out, it will only debit the amount due for payment – the actual charge will be taken within 3 days. A banking app may show the full day's charge as a pending payment, until the actual check out charge is debited.

If you hold a valid parking permit for the car park and car you wish to park, no action is required.

Be aware you can't check in more than one vehicle.

  • Find a parking space 
  • Enter your vehicle registration
  • Press the green OK button
  • To check in choose 'check in' on the screen
  • Insert the card or use the contactless reader
  • You'll be issued a ticket to show you've checked in
  • Display the ticket in your vehicle in all car parks - this doesn't apply to Carnival Pool and Winnersh park and ride
  • To check out you can use any payment machine in the car park
  • Don't re-enter your vehicle registration
  • Make sure you use the same card you checked in with - insert the card or use the contactless reader
  • This will charge you for the correct amount of time you've parked for
  • To get a receipt tap yes on the screen when prompted
  • Your bank will release the authorised amount in 2 to 3 days

How to check in

  • Enter your vehicle registration
  • Press the green OK button
  • To check in choose 'check in' on the screen
  • Insert the card or use the contactless reader
  • You will be issued a ticket to show you have checked in
  • No requirement to display your ticket in the vehicle as these are recorded electronically to our patrol officer’s handheld for enforcement purposes

How to check out

  • To check out you can use any payment machine in the car park.
  • Don't re-enter your vehicle registration
  • Using the same card as you used to checked in with - insert the card or use the contactless reader (no need to enter your vehicle registration)
  • This will charge you for the correct amount of time you have parked for. (The daily charge amount may display on your bank, as a pending charge until the actual payment charge is debited. Once the actual charge is debited, any pending transaction for the daily charge should no longer appear)
  • To get a receipt tap yes on the screen when prompted
  • Your bank will release the authorised amount in 2 to 3 days

If you forget to check out

If you forget to check out – call 0118 974 6318 - between the hours of 7am to 10pm on Weekdays. If you need support out of hours, at the weekend or on a Bank Holiday- call 0800 212 111.

We can manually check you out - call 0118 974 6318 and confirm your vehicle details and last 4 digits of the card you used. You will be charged up to the time you make the call to us.

If the vehicle remains in the car park after a request for check out, then it would be liable for a penalty notice for parking with no payment.

The machines will automatically check you out at 6am each morning to clear and process the transactions of the previous day.

Pay by card

You can pay for a set amount of time by card when you park:

  • Enter your vehicle registration
  • Press green OK button
  • Choose card button on screen
  • Use plus button to choose length of stay, up to the maximum allowed
  • Press green OK button
  • Insert card or wave card in front of contactless reader
  • Machine will issue a ticket to show you have paid for a set amount of time at a fixed fee

Payment by coin

You can pay for a set amount of time using coins when you park:

  • Enter your vehicle registration
  • Press green OK button
  • Choose coin button on screen
  • Insert coins and the display will show the value of coins inserted and the time allowed
  • for that value up to the maximum allowed.
  • Press green OK button
  • Machine will issue a ticket to show you have paid for a set amount of time at a fixed fee

Paying for multiple days

You can pay for multiple days by card only:

  • Enter your vehicle Registration
  • Press green OK button
  • Choose multiple days button on screen
  • Use plus button to choose number of days, up to the maximum of 6 days
  • Press green OK button
  • Insert or wave payment card at reader
  • Machine will issue a ticket to show you have paid for a set amount days and the valid date and time

Types of cards you can pay with

You can pay with all types of debit and credit cards except for:

  • American Express
  • Visa Electron
  • Maestro

If your card is declined

The machine will print a ticket confirming your payment's been declined. This ticket isn't a valid pay and display ticket.

Card payments can be declined due to:

  • Wrong card type
  • Poor connection to the bank
  • High volume of mobile use in the area
  • Mobile communications mast down

Trying another machine will often work, but if you're still having trouble you can pay by coins.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

The machines are configured to accept Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Discounted parking at Carnival Car Park

There is discounted parking at Wokingham Leisure Centre for Carnival Hub users. 

There are four machines at the Carnival Hub for leisure centre users. Please register your stay at the Leisure Centre and receive discounted parking. 

Do not pay at the car park as you will not get your discounted parking.

If you have a Blue Badge

Badge holders are not required to pay for parking so do not need to check in or out or pay at the machines. 

Make sure you display a valid blue badge and park within the bay markings. 

Special buttons

We have several machines at different locations that provide additional functions:

  • Cockpit Path - Market traders only - only valid with a market traders permit
  • California Country Park - fishing rod and coach parking
  • Dinton Pastures - fishing rod and coach parking
  • Station Road Earley - multiple day parking
