Phase 2 and public consultation

We, and our development partner, Wokingham Housing Limited (WHL), would like your views on the final proposals for the re-development of the Gorse Ride Estate before they are submitted as a planning application in June. The Gorse Ride Estate re-development  includes Firs Close, Dart Close, Orbit Close, Billing Avenue and parts of Whittle Close and Gorse Ride South. These updated plans can be viewed by downloading the 2 PDFs from the Dropbox website.

Public exhibition - 16 May 2019

A public exhibition will be held on 16 May 2019 from 3pm to 7.30pm at the St Mary and St John’s Parish Centre, Vicarage Close, Finchampstead, Wokingham RG40 4JW. Members from the project team will be available to explain the updated proposals and answer your questions. Drop in, see these plans and give us your comments by completing the Gorse Ride Estate Regeneration feedback form (PDF document) or Gorse Ride Estate Regeneration feedback form (Word document) and sending this back to us by 30 May 2019.

Proposed redevelopment of Gorse Ride in Finchampstead

We're working to regenerate the Gorse Ride Estate in order to provide high-quality homes in a great community. The regeneration will take place in phases. The first phase  will be the demolition of Cockayne Court and some properties in Arnett Avenue (97 to 107 odd numbers) and 154 Barkham Ride.

Details of the re-development are yet to be finalised and will be subject to planning approval.

However early work shows between 40 and 46 homes could be built on the area proposed for demolition in phase 1 costing around £6 million. This is likely to be a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and 2 and 3 bedroom houses.

Phase 1

Planning permission has been granted for 46 new homes (36 flats and 10 x 3 bed houses).

Following a tender process, a preferred building contractor has been selected and will be formally appointed shortly. Development is expected to commence this summer and complete in late summer 2020.

Steering group

A steering group of council tenants and owner occupiers as well as local councillors, our staff and other community stakeholders has been set up. This group will be responsible for making sure the community is fully involved and informed as the regeneration takes place. It will represent the interests of residents and wider community affected by the development proposals and work with us to influence the overall regeneration vision for Gorse Ride:
