It is your decision whether or not you tell people that you have experienced domestic abuse. However, often when you leave a relationship, the abuse can continue or your abuser may make efforts to find you meaning that it is important you remain vigilant. It can be helpful if trusted people, such as family and friends, children’s schools and our employer are aware of the situation, provided you let them know they should not share information about your whereabouts or situation with your abuser under any circumstances as this could put you at risk.  

If you are staying in the same area, try to change your previous routines as much as you can and avoid places such as shops, banks or cafes that you used to use frequently.
