Find an advocate

There are several different advocacy services. These include professional services for various groups of social care customers as well as self-advocacy and peer advocacy groups.

The Advocacy People can provide:

  • Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) for patients that are subject to the Mental Health Act
  • Independent Health Complaints Advocacy (IHCA) that can help people make a complaint about any aspect of their NHS care or treatment - including treatment in a private hospital or care home that is funded by the NHS
  • Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) - providing an independent safeguard to support particularly vulnerable people who lack capacity to make important decisions and who have no-one to appropriately consult regarding certain decisions
  • Care Act Advocacy (CAA) - the Care Act 2014 requires the us to identify customers who may have substantial difficulty being involved in an assessment, or review of their care and support needs, and if there is no appropriate relative or friend available to take that role, we must appoint an independent advocate to support the involvement of that customer
