Family Intervention Resources and Support Team

About FIRST

The Family Intervention Resources and Support Team (FIRST) offers workshops, courses and support for families about:

• sleep
• distressed or dysregulated behaviour

The team includes qualified Sleep Practitioners, Therapeutic Thinking Practitioners and a Family Support Worker.

Who can get support from FIRST

You can get support from FIRST if you:

• live in Wokingham Borough
• have a child or young person aged 3 to 18 who has a disability, is autistic, or is waiting for an autism assessment

If there are spaces available, some workshops and courses may also be open to families whose children do not have a disability or autism.

Coffee mornings and one-to-one appointments

These informal sessions give you the opportunity to meet other parents and carers and speak to members of the FIRST team.

You can also book a 15-minute one-to-one appointment.

FIRST runs workshops and courses to help parents and carers support their child or young person with healthy sleep.

Distressed behaviour workshops and courses

FIRST runs workshops and courses to help parents and carers understand and support distressed behaviour.

Focused family support

Additional support is available for families who:

• have completed a FIRST sleep or behaviour course and need extra support
• have been identified through a social care assessment as needing family support
• would benefit from this type of support based on their family's needs

FIRST will work with you to complete an assessment and agree a personalised support plan.

How to access FIRST support

Self-referral

Parents and carers can refer themselves if they:

• live in Wokingham Borough
• have a child or young person aged 3 to 18 who has a disability, is autistic, or is waiting for an autism assessment

If your child does not have a disability, you can still contact FIRST and may be offered a place on a workshop or course if spaces are available.

Referrals by professionals

Professionals can refer families for support when this has been identified through a social care assessment or is considered the most appropriate support for the family's needs.

Professionals must:

• download and fill in the Multi-Agency Referral Form (MARF)
• email it to triage@wokingham.gov.uk
