Artificial intelligence CCTV

Please provide the following information about the council’s use of artificial intelligence or automated video analytics with CCTV or other camera systems. For the purposes of this request, this includes technology that automatically analyses footage to identify behaviour, people, vehicles, objects or potential offences. Please exclude standard CCTV viewed only by human operators.
1. Does the council currently use, trial or have approved plans to introduce any AI-enabled CCTV or camera technology?
If no, please confirm this and disregard the remaining questions.
For each system, please provide:
2. Whether it is operational, being trialled or planned; the number of cameras using, or expected to use, the technology; The date it was introduced or is expected to be introduced; What the system is used to detect or identify; and The total amount spent or approved for the system
For the 2025/26 financial year, and from 1 April 2026 to the date of this request, please provide:
3. The number of incidents or alerts generated by the technology; The number confirmed as genuine following human review; The number resulting in a warning, fine or other enforcement action; and the number referred to the police or another enforcement body.
4. Please confirm whether a human officer must review the footage before any warning, fine, referral or other enforcement action is taken.
