Dogs in the summertime

Summer is coming and we all want to make the most of our gardens, let’s not let our dogs disturb others.

Make sure your dog is not boredom barking

Firstly, if the barking is a new behaviour a trip to the vet with your dog is always advised just in case there is an underlying issue that needs addressing.

Dogs need physical and mental stimulation; ensure you are providing ample of both in their daily routine to keep your dog happy and content. Some dogs, such as working types may require more than others.

Do not leave your dog unattended and teach a solid & reliable recall

Dogs should never be left unattended in your garden. Dog theft is on the rise and leaving your dog unattended in an outside space can leave your dog vulnerable to theft, regardless of how secure you believe your property boundary is. A solid and reliable recall will facilitate you calling your dog in, should it bark for an extended period of time.

Give your dog something to do

Interactive toys can provide enrichment; some examples may include brain game toys, a snuffle or lick mat, or you can also simply scatter some treats or part of their daily meal around the garden for them to sniff out. Dogs love to sniff, it can also be a naturally calming behaviour.

Always supervise your dog and ensure whatever activity you provide is suitable for your dog’s size and condition.

Seek advice from a suitable trainer if you are struggling
