Schools that provide support for specific needs

Some mainstream schools have support for specific needs available.

Children with hearing difficulties

These mainstream nurseries and schools are acoustically treated. This means the rooms have been adapted to create a better listening environment.

The Ambleside Centre Meadows Nursery for children aged 3 to 5 years.

Emmbrook Infant School for children aged 4 to 7 years.

Emmbrook Junior School for children aged 7 to 11 years.

Resource bases

Some mainstream schools have resource bases. These provide support for children and young people with an EHCP and specific special educational needs (SEN).

Resource bases usually have:

  • teachers and support staff who provide specialist support
  • specially adapted mainstream classrooms
  • a specialist space that is attached to the mainstream school

Children and young people who attend a resource base may split their time between specialist spaces and mainstream classes. This depends on the child or young person's needs and the way support is provided at the school.
