Spine Road

Central Section (Spine Road)

Programme timeline

  1. Summer 2019: Submission of planning application
  2. Winter 2019: Commence detailed design
  3. By end 2020: Announcement of planning decision (expected)

Current project status

To maximise efficiency the intention is to deliver South Wokingham Distributor Road (SWDR) Spine Road and Western Gateway Phase 1 as a single project (referred to as Spine Road) which will run from the new roundabout at Waterloo Road at the end of the Eastern Gateway section, through to the existing Tesco Roundabout.

Planning application

A planning application was submitted in November 2019. Full details can be found on the planning application portal under planning reference 192928.

Significant survey work has been undertaken including: ecology, ground conditions and archaeology and tree surveys to inform the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Transport modelling has also been undertaken to inform the Transport Impact Assessment (TIA) for the scheme. We have also engaged with landowners and other stakeholders.

Design and construction

Following submission of the planning application, work has now commenced on the detailed design for the scheme. Working closely with developers, the current focus is on drainage and flood mitigation designs.

A detailed construction programme is still to be developed.
