North Wokingham Distributor Road

North Wokingham Distributor Road

Why we're building a North Wokingham Distributor Road

There will be 4,000 new homes built in Wokingham by 2026 as part of our projects to build more houses. The North Wokingham Distributor Road (NWDR) will provide access to the new developments and help minimise the impact of increased traffic.

Project overview

The North Wokingham Distributor Road (NWDR) consists of 7 separate schemes, 4 of which are developer led (Bell Foundry LaneMatthewsgreenKentwood Farm and  Keephatch Beech) and 3 that are being delivered by Wokingham Borough Council which are West of Old Forest Road (WOFR), Toutley Road and Ashridge Farm.

Once completed, the NWDR will connect the A329 near the BP garage on Reading Road, with the A329(M) Reading to Bracknell motorway near the Coppid Beech roundabout junction. The new road will also provide a link from Winnersh to the A329(M) avoiding Wokingham town centre.

The NWDR will also provide access to the developments at Matthewsgreen, Kentwood Farm and Keephatch Beech and provide these areas with convenient and direct access to the motorway network as it will give access to both the A329 (M) and the M4.

Consultation on the route

In September and October 2013 we consulted on routes for the North Wokingham Distributor Road. We received around 1,500 responses. This was one of our biggest consultation responses ever.

We collected lots of useful information and there was a clear public preference for Alternative B. Following some suggestions and concerns raised by the consultation on 27 March 2014 our Executive approved funding for further technical studies.

We refined the design detail of Alternative B to take account of these suggestions and concerns and we presented to the Executive this refined recommended route at the end of September 2015.
