Support for visual and hearing impairments

How we can help

Our Sensory Needs team supports people in the Wokingham Borough with:   

  • Sight loss 
  • Hearing loss
  • D/deaf
  • Dual sensory impairment

We provide assessment and specialist support services to people with sensory loss to enable them to continue living as independently as possible.

Our Sensory Needs team has:

  • Specialist Deafblind level 3 and level 5 Assessors
  • A rehabilitation worker for visually impaired people (ROVI)
  • A rehabilitation worker for hearing impairment (ROHI)
  • A specialist referral and assessment officer

Drop-in sessions

There are monthly drop-in sessions on the last Friday of every month from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Wokingham Borough Council Civic Offices.       

The drop-in session offers people with hearing loss/deaf support with:

  • Facilitating communication
  • Responding to letters
  • Signposting to support

British Sign Language (BSL) introduction to the Sensory Needs Service
