Sustainable Routes

We are working in partnership with Ngage to secure matched funding for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

It’s a fact that by making clever travel decisions, businesses can save money, improve profitability and become more efficient. The Sustainable Routes project has 3 main goals:

  1. To focus your business on travel and on improved travel choices

  2. To provide your business with a plan and guidance on how to implement smarter travel options and get the benefits

  3. To provide your business with a match funded grant of up to a maximum of £1,000 towards the cost of implementing an initiative

The project has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

How does it work?

Your Business Link Adviser will guide you through the process. The Adviser will also help you gather information that you will need to upload onto a simple-to-use online assessment tool. This starts the process. Once you have filled in the online form, the Sustainable Routes team will produce a Travel Efficiency Plan for your business.

The plan will contain various travel choices and options for your business which could increase efficiency and save you money e.g. video conferencing equipment, remote working infrastructures, alternative fuels.

Once you have decided what action you would like to take, you need to cost it and then complete a grant application form. Remember, this is a match funded project, so whatever we offer you, you must match that same amount. The limit is £1,000. Once the grant is approved (you must wait for written confirmation from the Sustainable Routes team) – you can go-ahead and implement the action. We will visit you after 6 months to help you calculate the savings that you have made.

What are the benefits?

  1. Clear ideas to reduce overhead costs, in particular travel costs

  2. A match funded grant of up to £1,000

  3. A free staff travel survey from local transport teams

  4. Doing your bit for the environment – reductions in carbon emissions

Eligibility

You must be a small to medium size enterprise (SME) with 5–250 employees. To qualify, your business must be based in the Thames Valley area.
