Sustainable Travel

We have, within our Local Transport Plan the following transport vision:

“To provide a cost-effective, inclusive transport network that enhances the economic, social and environmental prospects of the Borough whilst promoting the safety, health and well-being of those that use it”.

We, and our partners, are committed to encouraging our residents to consider the way that they travel. Where possible we will encourage and facilitate active, healthy and socially responsible travel patterns that make walking, cycling and public transport more attractive.

Measures to encourage sustainable travel include:

Travel Plans

We work with businesses, employers and developers across Wokingham to develop Travel Plans. A Travel Plan is a management tool aimed at promoting sustainable travel as part of a new or existing development, with an emphasis on promoting healthy and sustainable transport options to residents and visitors, and reducing the number and length of car journeys. Travel plans are implemented with a long term view, and will develop and evolve along with the community in which they operate.

Travel Plans can bring a number of benefits

A travel plan has the potential to help achieve a wide range of benefits. Travel plans can help to:

  • Potential cost savings for organisations
  • Reduced demand for car parking and improved access
  • Reduced congestion on roads around your site
  • Greater travel choice
  • A healthier more productive workforce

We have produced 2 documents, Workplace Travel Plan guidance and Residential Travel Plan guidance. The 2 guidance documents have been prepared in accordance with the objectives of national and local transport and planning policy and includes best practice examples of travel plan measures and initiatives.

Grants for small businesses
