How to apply for a senior rail card

A Senior Railcard entitles you to up to a third off the cost of most off-peak rail journeys.

What does a Senior Railcard cost?

  • If eligible for a voucher, the discounted amount for a one-year railcard through us is £22.40
  • If over 60 and not eligible for a Voucher, you can buy a Railcard at any manned station for £28.00

If you buy a Senior Railcard Voucher from us you can save £5.60 or 20% compared to the normal cost if you go straight to a railway station for your card.

How do I apply for a Senior Railcard?

If you already have a bus pass or voucher or receive the Alternative Allowance you will already be registered on our system, so you can just pay for the voucher without needing to complete one of our application forms.

If you are eligible for a discounted railcard, but are not already registered with us for the bus pass or Alternative Allowance, you will need to complete a Concessionary Fares Application Form and register with us. You can do this by either coming into our cashiers office at the council or by downloading a Concessionary Fares application form.

Take the Voucher and a completed Railcard application form to any manned railway station and they will issue you with a Senior Railcard.

Do I have to apply in person?

You can apply for your Voucher by post. Simply write to us requesting a Voucher and don’t forget to enclose your cheque for £22.40. We will send your Voucher and an application form to you by post and you can then go and exchange this for a Railcard.

Alternatively you can collect your Voucher in person from:

  • Cashiers Office at the Civic Offices, Shute End, Wokingham - Monday to Friday, 9am - 2.00 pm
  • Earley Town Council Offices, Radstock Lane, Earley - Monday to Friday, 9am - 1pm and 2pm - 4 pm

Where can I get a Railcard application form?

Whenever you are issued with a Railcard Voucher we will give you a railcard application form. You can also download a copy from the Senior Railcard website or you can collect one from any manned railway station.

How can I renew my Senior Railcard?

If you are renewing an existing Railcard, which you can do up to 30 days before your existing card expires, you can request a new Voucher in person or by post.
