Transport for elderly and disabled people

Free Bus pass

Any resident in the Wokingham Borough can apply for a free bus pass who:

  • Is disabled and aged 5 or over
  • Is a woman who is old enough to claim the state retirement pension or
  • Is a man who has the same birthday as a woman who is old enough to claim the state retirement pension. Check the Bus Pass Age Entitlement Chart.

People born before 6 April 1950 are eligible for a bus pass from their 60th birthday.

People born after 5 April 1950 and before 6 April 1955 will become eligible for a bus pass between their 60th and 65th birthdays.  Their precise date of eligibility will depend on their individual date of birth.

People born after 5 April 1955 will not become eligible for a bus pass until they are 65 or older (in line with future changes to the state pension age). You can check your date of eligibility by checking the Bus Pass Age Entitlement Chart. You can't apply for a bus pass if you already claim the Alternative Allowance from us.

Senior railcards

If you are aged 60 or over you can apply for a Senior Railcard.

If you are aged 60 and over and eligible for a Free Bus Pass or the Alternative Allowance you are eligible to buy the discount voucher from us.

If you are aged 16 or over and have a disability, you can apply for the Alternative Allowance instead of the free national bus pass.

Free bus passes or the Alternative Allowance

You cannot apply for both a Free National Bus Pass and the Alternative Allowance - you can only claim one of these options. You can request a Senior Railcard whether you have a bus pass or receive the Alternative Allowance, if you are of eligible age.
