Speed limits are enforced by the Police. National speed limits are set by national law. We may vary the national speed limits subject to consultation. If you believe that traffic travels too fast along roads in your area, you can make a request to get the speed limit altered.

How do get a speed limit altered?
If you would like a speed limit to be lowered, raised or extended write to:
Traffic and Transport Team
Neighbourhood Services
P.O. Box 153
Shute End
Wokingham
RG40 1WL
Your request will then be assessed against:
- The adopted Speed Management Policy.
- The Police view.
- The characteristics of the road - alignment, level of activity alongside the road, accident record and degree of severance caused to a community by the speed of vehicles.
If a change in the speed limit is needed then a new Speed Limit Order has to be made. This involves a lengthy statutory legal process.
