Overgrowing vegetation
Overgrown trees, hedges and shrubs next to footpaths and roads pose a real hazard pedestrians who risk injury or damage to themselves or their clothing from thorns and branches. The disabled, visually impaired and young children are particularly at risk.
This means that it is very important that your vegetation does not grow out over the highway and cause a hazard to the public. If this does happen we will write to you asking you to remove the obstruction as it is an offence under the Highways Act 1980.
To make sure the problem is cleared as soon as possible we will attach a formal notice giving you 21 days to cut back the overgrowth. If you do not comply with the notice we may carry out the work ourselves and recover its costs for doing so from you.
To find out more see our overgrowing vegetation fact sheet or phone 0118 974 6302 / 6303.
