Household waste - domestic bins

Our weekly rubbish collection service is carried out by SITA Ltd. We control and manage this contract. SITA can be contacted on 0800 838 878 and our Waste Team can be contacted on 0118 974 6302 / 6303.

What we can and can't do

  • We can't mechanically empty wheelie bins, so the waste will have to be removed from the bin and put out in bags on collection day. Find out why we don't use wheelie bins.
  • We can't supply containers for household waste

  • We can collect any suitable container, such as refuse sacks or a dustbin
  • We can collect a reasonable amount - 5 to 6 bags - in line with a normal weely accumulation and not an extraordinary clear out

Tips for leaving out your rubbish

  • Don't put paint or oil in your rubbish as it will leak out onto the road and cause a mess - these items should be taken to our local rubbish tips
  • Keep the pavement clear
  • Wrap broken glass in newspaper as unwrapped glass can cause serious injury to collectors
  • Rubbish should be placed at the edge of your property prior to collection

Rubbish collection times

Rubbish collections could be as early as 6.30am so it may be benefical to put out your rubbish the night before. On Bank Holidays we collect the rubbish earlier than normal so you should always leave your rubbish out the night before on these occasions.

To find out when your rubbish will be collected see our rubbish collections page. We also run a local community skip programme for domestic rubbish.
