We run a free fortnightly green garden waste collection scheme for over 53,000 properties.

To see if you are eligible, use the search on our rubbish collections page or call 0118 974 6302 / 6303. We provide one free re-usable bag for all those eligible.

How to order a green bag

If you are eligible and haven't got a bag, or you have lost your bag you can either:

Collect one free of charge from Earley Town Council or Woodley Town Council. Please take a utility bill for proof of identity
Collect one free of charge from our offices at Shute End between 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday
Email waste.services@wokingham.gov.uk or call the number above and one will be delivered within 21 days

What is garden waste?

The following are eligible as garden waste:

Grass cuttings
Leaves
Garden clippings
Weeds

The following are not eligible as garden waste:

Stones or soil
Animal waste
Food or kitchen waste
Wood
Pet or other animal bedding
Large branches
Other household waste

Garden waste collection

Garden waste bags are collected from the kerbside every fortnight on the same day as rubbish collections and the opposite week to black box recycling collections.

Tips:

Garden waste collections may be earlier than normal collections so we recommend leaving the bag out the night before
Leave the bag within 1 metre of vehicle access and where you leave your black boxes.
Do not fill the bag with more than 12kg of waste and put your number on the bag for easy return.

Extra bags

You can buy up to 2 extra bags at £4.15 each, with a cheque made payable to Wokingham Borough Council, at Earley or Woodley Town Council offices.

Or you can come in, pay for the bags at our Cashier Desk at Shute End, and take them away with you.

Alternatively you can send in a cheque, made payable to Wokingham Borough Council, together with your address details to:

Delivery of extra bags will be within 21 days.

If you have more green waste than this you can:

Home compost the waste
Take it to a local rubbish tip where it will be composted
Call our waste contractors, SITA, on 0800 838878 who will quote you a price for removal
