Statutory undertakers - utilities companies
Statutory Undertakers - sometimes referred to as Utilities Companies - are companies who provide services such as gas, electricity, water or communications. These companies are licensed by the government to install their equipment - cables, pipes etc - under the highway and maintain them as necessary. This gives them the right to carry out street works to provide a service and maintain their apparatus.
