Reading Buses are making changes to bus services in Woodley and Earley in the New Year, from January 11 2010. Buses 63 and 64, which link Woodley with Reading with a circular route around Woodley, will no longer run and will be replaced by separate 12, 13, and 14 services during the daytime and 13A in the evening. Bus 62 which links Woodley with the Royal Berkshire Hospital will be replaced by new service 19. Some services will also have reductions in frequency at certain times of day. These changes are a commercial decision by the operator, over which we have no control.
We are funding a number of additions to the commercial service. As a result the new service 19 will continue around the south and east Woodley loop currently served by the 62, so that the Drovers Way area can continue to have a bus service and to preserve links from south and east Woodley to the shopping centre, Piazza area and Royal Berkshire Hospital. On new service 12, which will run on a direct route between Woodley Airfield and Reading, we are paying for off-peak, Saturday and some additional peak buses which will all be operated by Thames Travel, on top of the peak hour and Sunday service provided commercially by Reading Buses. Two additional journeys will run on service 22 to close gaps in the timetable. School bus 83 will continue to run but will be transferred back to Reading buses and renumbered 983.
Details of each service from January 11 2010 are as follows:
-
12 Reading - Whitegates - Bulmershe - Woodley centre - Woodley Piazza - Woodley Airfield (loop via Hurricane Way, Mohawk Way, Miles Way and Spitfire Way). Runs every 20-30 minutes in peak hours, 30 minutes off-peak and Saturday and hourly on Sundays.
-
13 Reading - Shepherd's Hill - Howth Drive - Woodley centre - Woodley Green (loop via Butts Hill Road, Glendevon Road, Tippings Lane and Headley Road East). Runs every 30 minutes during daytime on Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sundays.
-
13A Reading - Woodley circular evening service as present 64 route, runs hourly every evening.
-
14 - Reading - Whitegates - Bulmershe - Fairwater Drive - Nightingale Road - Crockhamwell Road - loop via Loddon Bridge Road, Vauxhall Drive, Colemansmoor Road and Loddon Bridge Road. Runs every 30 minutes during daytime on Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sundays.
-
19 Reading - Royal Berkshire Hospital - University of Reading (main site) - Wilderness Road - Earley crossroads - then as present 62 route around Whitegates and Woodley. During Monday to Saturday runs hourly between Reading and Woodley centre, continuing around the south and east Woodley loop during the daytime. Additional journeys run within Woodley so that people from south and East Woodley visiting the Piazza area can have a direct bus home. As a result the service between south and east Woodley and the shoping centre is improved to half-hourly. The hourly off-peak diversion via Culver Lane continues to run.
-
22 Caversham - Reading - Royal Berkshire Hospital - Maiden Erlegh - Lower Earley district centre (Asda): the existing off-peak and Saturday service is reduced from half-hourly to hourly.
-
62 Reading - Woodley: this no longer runs and and is replaced by new service 19.
-
63/64 Reading - Woodley circulars: these no longer run and are replaced by new services 12, 13, 13A and 14.
-
N64 Woodley night service: the times remain unchanged but the service is renumbered N14. As now, the bus leaves Reading as a N21 for Lower Earley, and passengers for Woodley should stay on the bus at the Showcase Cinema.
-
There are also changes to times of some journeys on services 20 and 21 but routes and frequencies are unchanged.
