Dropped crossings and kerbs

Driving a vehicle across a verge or a footway to reach your property is an offence unless a properly constructed vehicle access exists - i.e. a dropped crossing.

It can also cause damage to the verge or footway.

We can require a landowner to have a proper access constructed and can carry out the work and then claim the money back from the landowner if necessary.

Cost

The cost of the crossing will vary, depending on how wide the crossing is and how wide the footway is. There is also an administrative charge and if you need planning permission an additional application fee.

Developers Applications

Developers who carry out dropped crossing works on the highway will have to complete the appropriate application form - see below. They will also require a ‘Section 50’ street works licence in order to carry out works on the highway. The Section 50 licence can be obtained by contacting the Street Works team on 0118 908 8306.
