Entitlement

All carers are entitled to information, advice and prevention services. 

Other services such as short breaks may be available to carers if they meet the eligibility criteria, depending on their individual circumstances. Please read 'Examples of carer support services' for an indication of what eligible carers may be able access.

Information and prevention services

There are organisations that can provde information, advice and prevention services to carers regardless of whether the person they care for receives social care support:

• Carers emergency response service: helps plan what would happen in an emergency if you were unable to look after the person you care for and, if necessary, provides support until the situation is resolved
• Princess Royal Trust Carers Service: support, information, training and advice for all carers in the Wokingham borough
• Mencap: support for people with learning disabilities and their carers
• ASD Family Help: support and advice to people on the Autistic spectrum and their carers
• Crossroads Care Wokingham: support for carers, including respite
• Bracknell and Wokingham College: run 'Take A Break' training courses for carers funded by Wokingham Borough Council
• Wokingham Information Network: a directory of local organisations and services, including support for carers

Support groups

There are several support groups in the local area that offer carers informal support and guidance, allowing the carer to have a break from their duties and socialise with people in similar situations.
