Are you eligible?
If you need help from Social Services, for example due to your illness or disability, you need to contact us and tell us about your circumstances.
We will work with you to assess what your needs are and whether you meet the eligibility criteria for help from Adult Social Care Services.
For information about eligibility criteria please read the document 'Am I entitled to a service?' or visit the 'Eligiblity criteria' website page.
Support needed
In addition, you or someone supporting you, will fill in a self-assessment questionnaire about the support you need and goals or changes you want to achieve. Someone from the Council will also be involved and will help you to make sure that all relevant issues are covered.
Calculating your budget
We use a Resource Allocation System (RAS) to work out how much money you need for your support. The RAS uses points to allocate a budget that matches your needs. It also ensures that the money is given out fairly to everyone who is eligible for social care services, according to the needs they have.
Before we tell you what your planning amount is, we check that this is sufficient to make the arrangements you need for your support.
