What is assistive technology?
Assistive Technology can offer simple, valuable support to help you maintain safety, independence and peace of mind.
What is available?
A range of equipment is available, such as:
- Personal alarms
- Smoke detectors
- Gas sensors
- Pill dispensers with reminder alerts
- Motion sensors that can switch the light on for you when you get up at night
Some of these can be linked to a call centre where necessary.
Mobile phones and Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation systems can also help to monitor and maintain safety.
Find out more
To find out more about local personal alarm services or equipment to help you in your home you can search the Adult Information Directory on the Wokingham Information Network for 'personal alarms' or 'equipment'.
How to access the service
If you think you or someone you care for might benefit from this kind of equipment you can talk to an adviser in our social care team. If there's a possibility that you may meet the eligibility criteria for help from the council they will arrange an assessment for you. If not, they will be able to advise you about local services and suppliers that you can access directly.
