Training for school support staff

Support Work In Schools - SWIS - training gives school support staff an opportunity to gain qualifications that are relevant to their role. The qualifications are flexible, all the training and assessment takes place in the workplace. 

 

Who is this training suitable for?

SWIS are particularly suitable for staff who:

  • Are new to working in a school

  • Have more than one role

  • Work for a limited number of hours or

  • Returning to learning after a gap year

 

What does the training involve?

The SWIS include mandatory units and multiple optional units. Mandatory units include:

  • Site security and maintenance

  • Catering

  • Managing resources

  • Supporting learning

  • Health and safety

  • IT and communications

 

The awards were developed by the Learning and Skills Council and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority - QCA, with 4 awarding bodies:

  • Cache

  • City and Guilds

  • Edexcel and

  • OCR

 

We are working in partnership with the The Thames Valley University to deliver SWIS. If you are interested in completing a SWIS please discuss with your Headteacher or Line Manager.
