Rivermead Primary School

The staff and governors at Rivermead Primary School have been involved in building an integrated curriculum since the introduction of the National Curriculum in 1988.

The maps that feature here are the result of nearly 20 years of curriculum development, and staff review every three or four years.  In particular, staff reviewed these maps after the Dearing review, and the introduction of the Literacy and Numeracy Strategies.  They are curriculum overview maps for a general audience, particularly useful for parents, and much more detailed planning exists in medium term plans and subject leader schemes of work.

  • Caribbean Collage [jpg / 1.39MB] Rivermead Upper Key Stage 2 pupils work on a topic about St. Lucia as a geography driver for learning. This covers many areas of the curriculum, not least making lemonade in Science as part of an investigation into dissolving. Here is a beautiful collage made in Art through group work, both for planning and creation.

  • Caribbean collage - such rich colours [jpg / 1.51MB] Such rich colours, but the children are also taught about life on St. Lucia, and the tensions between the developing tourist industry and traditonal life and territory. Young people love the job prospects, whilst the older generation may want to hold on to their land and space.
