Please see information below to help you administer the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for support staff within your school.

Employer contributions are listed at the folowing site:

http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/berks-pension/Rates_and_Adjustment_Certificate_2011-14(3).pdf

Eligibility rules for the LGPS from 1st April 2008:

From 1st April 2008 all employees with a contract for three months or more and who are under the age of 75 will be eligible for membership of the LGPS. Employees with a contract of less than three months or who are 75 or over cannot join the scheme. Therefore any new casual staff are now excluded from the scheme.

New staff

All new members of support staff, whether full or part time with a contract of 3 months or more should automatically be in the Local Government Pension Scheme.

If a new member of staff does not wish to be in the scheme the individual will need to complete an opt out form (LGS11), which should be forwarded onto your payroll provider.

Existing staff

An existing member of staff who has previously opted out of the LGPS and who has a contract of three months or more, can opt back in by completing Form LGS10 which should be forwarded to your payroll provider.

If an existing member of the scheme wishes to opt out, if it is within 3 months of joining the scheme they will need to complete Form LGS22 and will receive a full refund of their contributions. If it is over 3 months since joining the scheme Form LGS35 should be completed but no refund will be available. All forms should be forwarded to your payroll provider.

Please note only employees with less than 3 months membership in the scheme are entitled to a refund.

The LGS forms referred to above can be downloaded from the Berkshire Pension Fund website at http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/berks-pension/employers_standard_forms.htm
