Headteachers will be aware that they have health and safety responsibilities and a duty of care towards contractors when they come onto the school site – whether or not they are engaged directly by the school. As a tool to assist schools in this, a model leaflet has been designed and can be downloaded below.
As a starting point, there needs to be effective communication with contractors regarding health and safety matters. This leaflet is designed to be issued to all contractors before they undertake work, setting out essential local safety information in straightforward and easily understood terms.
The leaflet is designed to be downloaded and customised by each individual school, and we recommend that all schools should adopt this approach as standard practice.
