New School Provision
The Department for Education is supporting our proposal to expand primary education in the borough through the provision of new schools. Planning permission has been granted, construction of the buildings is underway off-site and we will shortly commence on-site groundwork. The new one-form entry primary schools to open in September 2013 will be at:
- Smith's Walk, Woosehill, Wokingham
- Winnersh Farm, Winnersh
- East Park Farm, Charvil
The Piggott School will provide primary education at the new Charvil School and we have interviewed, and are engaged in, the process leading to the appointment of the new provider by the Secretary of State for Education, who has the final decision. Once he has indicated this decision, we will start the application procedure.
Charvil Piggott Primary School
The Secretary of State for Education has now given the go-ahead to extend the age range of the Piggott School, therefore allowing the Piggott School to make more definite plans for the Charvil Piggott Primary School. Some of you will have seen that work has already started on the site in Charvil and the admissions process can begin soon. All parents of Reception-age pupils have received initial offers as a result of the main round of primary admissions; details for a second round of applications for a place at the new primary school was distributed along with the papers for the allocation. Application packs will be sent to those parents who have advised their expression of interest on May 1, 2013, the deadline for this second round of applications is May 20, 2013, with offers being made by June 4, 2013. In the first instance, this may be a provisional offer pending final agreement by the Secretary of State for Education to open. Once this has been given, final offer letters will be sent with a further acceptance form for completion. It is at that point that parents will be asked to decide which school place they will accept together with clarification as to whether they wish to remain on waiting lists for other preferred schools.
Parents wishing to take up a place at the Charvil primary school are urged to return their acceptance form, indicating their interest, to the Local Authority but you may also register an interest in the school by emailing the Piggott School. the school will ensure that contact is maintained so that you are aware of key dates, developments and plans.
If you wish to express an interest for a F2 Reception place (September 2013) at any of the proposed new schools, please complete the school interest form highlighting the relevant school. This information will be used to send you an application pack for the new school after the offer date of 16 April 2013 once initial approval has been given by the Department for Education and the information will be shared with the new school provider. Alternatively, you will be able to indicate your interest on the acceptance form to be completed after offer day.
The proposed scheme for allocation to new schools is shown below, for your information.

How places are allocated
School places for F2 (Foundation 2) as a rising five (sometimes known as Reception) are allocated by our School Admissions Team, taking into account:
- Published admission arrangements
- The number of places available at each school
Attendance options
You can request that the date your child is admitted to school is deferred until later in the school year or until your child reaches statutory school age in that school year. In such instances, the school place will be held for that child and not offered to another child. School places will not be held beyond the academic year for which the original application was accepted. You may also request that your child starts part-time.
Wokingham Borough residents
If you pay Council Tax to Wokingham Borough Council you should complete our application form for any primary or infant school within the Borough, or for application to schools in other authorities. To receive an application pack, please complete our school application pack request form. If you haven't received a pack by early December, contact us.
Residents of other authorities
You must apply for schools using the application form provided by your home local authority. If you are considering a place at a Wokingham Borough school, please read our Parent's Guide, to understand the basis on which places will be allocated. Your local authority will forward your child's application to us.
Changes to Primary Guide
The parent's guide has been amended and re-published to reflect the changes to the admissions policy for Grazeley Parochial CE Aided Primary School following a determination (Reference No ADA002343) made by The Office of the Schools Adjudicator. It also incorporates an amendment to page 73 as the figures quoted for Walter Infant School were originally incorrect.
