In year admissions

There are three normal points of entry for school applications:

This page relates to applications outside of these transfer groups known as in-year (casual) admissions.

Wokingham Borough residents must apply, using the Wokingham Borough in-year application form, for schools within this Borough and for other areas of England.

Reisdents of other local authorities in England must apply to their home authority for schools in the Wokingham Borough, except where evidence can be provided of the proposed move to the Borough eg signed rental agreement or exchange of contracts, families of service personnel or other Crown servants and families applying from abroad or from other regions of the United Kingdom eg Scotland.

You are advised to check, prior to applying via the Wokingham Borough Council School Admissions Team, if you are moving to another area of England to see if the above exception applies in that authority.

Moving to the Wokingham Borough from outside the area

Applications will only be considered half a term in advance of a place being required.

Many of the schools in the Borough may already be full and moving into an area does not guarantee a place at a preferred school.

If transferring school, without a house move, it is recommended that any issues are addressed with the current school prior to considering a change of school.

In both instances, we can advise you on the availability of school places or discuss the options open to you.

Please note that children wishing to transfer to a Wokingham Borough school without a house move; where there is no reasonable need for an immediate move or following allocation from a school waiting list would normally be admitted to the schools from the beginning of each half term.

Additional information will be required for those moving from abroad.

If you have been advised by another local authority that you application has been unsuccessful, you have the right of appeal.

In-year Fair Access Protocols

The School Admissions Forum has agreed the following protocols for the admission of children in-year with effect from September, 2007 and in accordance with the School Admissions Code:

  1. Managed Transfers and Reintegration of Pupils in Secondary Schools

  2. Managed Transfers and Reintegration of Pupils in Primary Schools

  3. Looked After Children and Casual Admissions

  4. Placement of Vulnerable Pupils

In some instances implementation of a Protocol allows for the admission of children above the admission number. Consideration of applications that may fall within one of the above groups will be by a Panel of officers and, where necessary, school representatives.

Written copies are available on request from the School Admissions Team.
