Go In, Stay In, Tune In
During some incidents it will be safer for you and your family to be inside the home or workplace than outside. This could be as a result of a fire where chemicals are being released or there is radiation in the atmosphere. When this happens messages will be sent out via the emergency responders and the media telling you to go in, stay in and tune in.
What does this mean?
Go in - Go into a building where you can take shelter – often closing window and doors and perhaps blocking up vents. Depending on where you are this may be going into your home, work place, school or the nearest building which may be a shop for example.
Stay in - Stay in that building until you are told by the emergency responders to do otherwise.
Tune in - Tune into local radio, local TV, the internet etc to get more updates as to what is happening and what you should do.
There will obviously be some difficulties if you are away from home and need medication or support due to disabilities etc. However, information will be provided, as soon as it is available, via the media or a trained officer dressed in a hiviz jacket coming to your location.
